Breaking: People living in Pacific Palisades are evacuating due to a rapidly spreading brush fire in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Newsom Heads to D.C. for Jimmy Carter’s State Funeral

 

Governor Gavin Newsom is on his way to Washington, D.C., to attend Former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Carter’s casket arrived in the capital Tuesday afternoon, where he’ll be honored with a military tribute and other ceremonies before lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. The state funeral is scheduled for Thursday.

Newsom Delays State of the State

Governor Newsom’s trip to Washington, D.C., also allows him to delay his annual State of the State address. But let’s be honest—that’s nothing new. The Governor has a history of running late or dodging that yearly speech.

Still, he did give us a glimpse of his 2025 budget plans. Newsom proposed a $322 billion budget, notably without a deficit—a potential shift after two years of significant shortfalls.

But before you pop the champagne, keep in mind this budget is largely a placeholder. Why? We are waiting to see if the Trump Administration will make good on past threats and revoke billions in federal funds.

KCRA reporter Ashley Zavala caught up with Newsom during his budget presentation and didn’t pull any punches. She pressed him on his ongoing opposition to Prop 36, the anti-crime initiative that voters passed with over 70% approval last November.
