Judge clears way for mega lawsuit blaming LA and California for deadly Palisades Fire

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

A judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court cleared the way for a major lawsuit to move forward seeking to hold the State of California and the City of Los Angeles civilly liable for alleged failures that contributed to the deadly Palisades Fire, which killed at least 12 people and destroyed thousands of structures.
The lawsuits claim that emergency responders left smoldering hot spots from a prior blaze, did not adequately supply water, and failed to shut off power, actions plaintiffs say worsened conditions before the fire spread.
The lead attorney for victims argues that altered language in the official after‑action report and other evidence suggests a cover‑up and mishandling by city officials, potentially including political leadership.
