As California Gas Prices Soar, Governor Focuses on Feud with Trump

In partnership with

California's gas prices are climbing, but instead of swift action, some lawmakers are heading back to Sacramento tomorrow for yet another round of meetings. With prices rising and frustration mounting, these meetings all Californians should be keeping a close eye on.

California ⛽Prices on the Rise

The timing couldn’t be better. When the rest of the country is seeing prices drop at the pump, we’re still feeling the squeeze here in California.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas here is now $4.78—that’s a 10-cent jump just since last week. Meanwhile, drivers in other states are paying around $3.00 a gallon. Good for them, sucks for us.

County By County

And of course, ⛽prices vary by which region/county you live in. You can find those numbers HERE.

Why Are California Gas Prices So High?

Aren’t you getting sick of asking this? It’s the same old song and dance- but here is what we are being told:

  • West Coast oil refineries are undergoing routine maintenance, which means less gas is being produced.

  • California has its own unique blend of gas, so our prices don’t drop when other states see relief.

  • Winter blend (which typically lowers prices) is still about a month away from being released.

  • With a limited gas supply from some facilities, prices are going up in the short term.

What’s About That Special Session?

  • Two informational meetings are set for this week in Sacramento to discuss Governor Newsom’s oil/gas proposals, which will be the subject of a special session in October.

  • A hearing on that special session will take place on September 26.

Gov. Newsom Goes After Trump…. Again

Critics of Governor Newsom say the Democrat seems more interested in promoting his podcast with his “bros” than addressing urgent policy issues. And once again, he’s using that podcast to take shots at former President Trump. Here’s what he posted on “X” earlier today:

Assassination Plot Against Former President Trump

Meantime, federal authorities said that Ryan Wesley Routh had planned to assassinate former President Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course on Sunday.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • Routh allegedly hid in the trees near the golf course for about 12 hours before being spotted by the Secret Service.

  • He appeared in court on Monday and has been charged with two gun-related crimes, with more charges likely to follow.

  • Major news organizations are reporting that Routh has had a long history of “odd behavior” and a lengthy criminal record.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Indictment

Sean "Diddy" Combs was once one of the most successful music producers in the world, so the big question is: why didn’t he just stick to music?

Instead, he's now facing federal charges for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, kidnapping, and even arson, stemming from a months-long investigation that spanned coast to coast.

Indictment Details

According to the indictment unsealed this morning:

📌Combs allegedly used his vast influence and business empire to create a criminal enterprise involved in some seriously disturbing crimes.

📌At the center of it all are so-called "freak offs"—hours- and days-long sex acts that Combs allegedly produced, directed, and recorded.

The 9-minute press conference is intense to listen to, but if you're up for it, here you go:

Norwalk Homeless Shelter Ban

The state of California is threatening to take legal action against the city of Norwalk if it doesn’t reverse its recent ban on homeless shelters and other housing options.

What We Know:

  • Norwalk passed an ordinance temporarily banning homeless shelters, single-room occupancy housing, and supportive housing.

  • The ordinance also bans liquor stores, laundromats, car washes, and payday loan establishments.

  • The governor sent a letter threatening legal action against Norwalk unless the ordinance is rescinded.

  • The city has until Monday to respond.

It is unfathomable that as our state grapples with a homelessness crisis, Norwalk would pass an ordinance banning the building of homeless shelters. It is counterproductive and immoral for any community to throw up their hands and say they’ve done enough while they still have people in need. We can’t leave people in dangerous and unsanitary encampments — the city of Norwalk needs to do its part to provide people with shelter and services.”

Governor Gavin Newsom
